After Hitler appoints Bruno’s father commandant of Auschwitz, Bruno (nine) is unhappy with his new surroundings compared to the luxury of his home in Berlin. The literal-minded Bruno, with amazingly little political and social awareness, never gains comprehension of the prisoners (all in “striped pajamas”) or the malignant nature of the death camp.

The story of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is very difficult to describe. Usually we give some clues about the book on the cover, but in this case we think that would spoil the reading of the book.

We think it is important that you start to read without knowing what it is about. If you do start to read this book, you will go on a journey with a nine-year-old boy called Bruno.4/5(). Use discussion skills to form a view about characters and the likely direction of the story. Parents need to know that even though the main character in this book is 9 years old, this book is a better fit for kids in late middle school and up. The book focuses on complex emotional issues of evil and the Holocaust, and raises questions about the nature of man.

It could spark a great moral discussion. But kids will probably be very moved 5/5.The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas Paperback – 11 Sep #N#John Boyne (Author) › Visit Amazon's John Boyne Page. search results for this author. John Boyne (Author) out of 5 stars 1, ratings.
